ARKANSAS TRAVEL DIARY.

over the long weekend, we roadtripped down to northwest arkansas.  it is actually a pretty funny story how we ended up picking arkansas as our labor day weekend destination so i will go ahead and share… the week before, we were over at our friends’ house (he is matt’s best friend and she is mine, and they just got married this summer so basically we do everything together!) and they brought up the idea of a trip together.  we started throwing around ideas of places that are not too far from kansas city like wichita, omaha, st. louis and then someone suggested arkansas.  i had no idea but it is only three hours from us!  in the end, our top choices were chicago and arkansas but no one could pick which one they liked better so we flipped a coin!

we left friday afternoon as soon as everyone was off work which was great because we got into town pretty early.  we quickly unpacked and changed our clothes and then hit up hugo’s for burgers for dinner.  afterwards, we strolled down to dickson street which is the main drag in fayetteville full of all the college bars and hotspots.

saturday we decided to check out nearby tontitown winery and do a little bit of wine tasting while chatting on the porch finalizing our plans for the next few days.  sidenote: the weather report called for rain so crissy and i wore our rain boots only for it to be gloriously sunny and be asked if we were “going wading” haha.

after that, we went to the university of arkansas campus because matt and i randomly love checking out other schools.  after walking all around, we went to hammontree’s grilled cheese for lunch which came as a recommendation from one of my favorite arkansas bloggers, chloe of nomad en vogue.  we all thought it was kind of weird to have a restaurant dedicated to grilled cheese but after we got our food we were completely converted, everything was so yummy!  after that, the boys went to go watch the arkansas game at a bar since it was an away game and us girls decided to pop into a few local boutiques (maude, riff raff and savoir-faire).

the only thing the boys asked to do on this trip was go to a minor league baseball game – they needed some sports in their life.  so that night we went to the naturals game and it was so much fun!  they kept thinking i was lying when i said i had a great time but it really was a blast.  minor league games are really fun because they are not quite as competitive, the food is a little cheaper and you can get better seats!

sunday we headed to a nearby town called eureka springs which is nestled in the ozark mountains and its hilly streets are lined with restaurants and shops.  we had a great time walking the streets and popping into random shops as well as eating a fabulous lunch outside at local flavor cafe, another great recommendation from chloe.
outfit details posted here.

after a few hours there, we changed into our workout gear and did a hike around leatherwood lake, which is just a few minutes from downtown eureka springs.  the weather was perfect, the hike was fairly easy and the scenery was incredible!  it was definitely the highlight of the trip for me.

we decided to cut the trip a little short and come back pretty early on monday because it was really rainy and matt had been offered some great tickets to the royals game that night.  i was sad to see the weekend come to a close, but i definitely want to make another trip back soon because i really loved it there!
