When we moved earlier this year, I was insistent that we decorate our place even though we knew it was very temporary – as in we would be there less than 12 months. To me it was important that we love our space and that it be a refuge after a long day of work and a place that I could spend time hanging out with my husband since we didn’t know anyone in our new town, and I knew that if we didn’t decorate it right away, we never would. So we had the apartment complex remove all the furniture it came with, brought all our own stuff, I finally finished a few DIY projects I had always wanted to do, and we set out to make it feel like home.
After all that, the one thing our place was lacking was color. I have a strong affinity for blue and white and it is a struggle to keep from decorating every room in those colors. I knew that a colorful piece of art above the couch would be the perfect finishing touch, something big enough to command the entire wall, and colorful enough that if I do decide to veer away from the blue and white palette, that the piece would still work. Because let’s be real, art is expensive!
I started hearing about Minted through friends and decided to browse their art collection. I knew of Minted for their cards and invitations, but didn’t realize they had expanded into art. What is really cool is that Minted acts as an online marketplace connecting you with independent artists from all over the world and sources its pieces through on-going art competitions, so you know everything is top-notch. It takes the work out of searching for you by putting so many different artists of different styles in one place (I could browse for hours!) and the best part is that it is extremely affordable. There are so many different sizing options that you can pick exactly what you need, and they have tons of framing options so it’s really a one-stop shop.
I made the plunge on this amazing abstract piece that was actually designed by a blogger that I love to read, Blair of The Fox and She. Her pieces were all so incredible and exactly what I was looking for, and after much deliberation I finally settled on this piece because I loved the subtle use of the color blue (surprise, surprise). It truly made our living room come together and I couldn’t be happier.
If you are looking for art for your place, I highly suggest browsing through Minted’s art selection. I am confident you’ll find the perfect piece for you, your place, and your budget.
