Unless you are new around here (in which case, hello!) you know how much I love my winter whites. Well that love has skyrocketed since I got these pants. I am aware that most people don’t purchase stark white jeans in the dead of winter, but these ones were too good to pass up. Not one to keep new things sitting in the back of my closet, I have found plenty of ways to mix these suckers into my winter wardrobe – my favorite being, you guessed it, white on white. Since many people find this to be an intimidating look to rock themselves, especially in the colder months when we typically see more blacks, greys, and jewel tones, today I wanted to share my tips for how to wear white on white in the winter.
1. Texture. Suede, wool, denim, and faux fur all of these are great options, save the silks and linens for the warmer months. You want to make sure that the pieces you choose are not of the same fabric or texture; by mixing them you create depth to your look and by adhering to the textures and fabrics of the season, you don’t look out of place.
2. Hue. Make sure that your pieces don’t match exactly when it comes to color. Choose a stark white and pair it with an ivory or creamy white. If you’re still scared of white-on-white, try white paired with tan or grey for that same “light” feel.
3. Accessories. This is where you can break up the white on white if need be. Choose a printed scarf or a darker bag to break up the look, a darker mauve or deep red lipstick, or a leather jacket or winter coat (both of which make it clear that you are aware of the season and that your white on white is intentional).
Personally, I chose to keep the whole white look going with my light tan booties, white bag, and ivory necklace, because I was dead set on wearing the necklace. I mentioned last week that I had a piece from the new Kendra Scott spring collection on its way to me and I. am. obsessed. It has a really glamorous feel to it and it lends such a stunning interest element to any look. Plus, it works with a casual oversized sweater just as well as a little black dress. She really outdid herself with this collection, and I think this necklace is proof!
4. Rock it! Confidence and a smile really are truly the best accessories a girl can have, so if you decide to try the white on white look, wear it proudly!
And there you have it… four simple tips to rock white on white in the winter. If this was a trend you were always afraid of thinking to yourself “I couldn’t wear that” then I will just say this: I used to totally feel that way too until I figured out I was doing it wrong trying to pair white denim with a silk blouse in the winter. Once I figured out the tricks I shared above, it’s been winter white forevz.
