Is the athleisure trend even a “trend” anymore? I think at this point it’s more a style of dressing because I don’t think it’s going anywhere any time soon. And I for one am glad it’s still going strong because I love bringing out my former sporty side (I was a total tomboy growing up!) and let’s be honest, I like to be comfortable. Plus, it gives off that air like I am someone who works out even though I actually can’t tell you the last time I did anything more than 5 pushups. So basically the athleisure look is a win-win-win!
There are two keys to owning the athleisure look: 1) layers and 2) sweet sneakers.
Without layers, it’s hard to look like you didn’t actually just come from the gym – adding a layer or some sort of non-athletic piece (in this case a knit scarf and a cardigan coat) make it clear that this is only athletic-inspired. As for the sneakers, what I love is that there are so many options these days! I swear I find at least 6 pairs I want each week – it’s becoming a problem. What’s great is that there are tons of street sneakers on the market (ones that are super comfy and just for casual wear) but in addition, workout companies have begun producing all their true workout shoes in fun colors and prints!
These ones I am wearing are old from Nike, but they are the shoes I wear when I do make it to the gym or go for a run but they double just as well for casual walks around the neighborhood or with skinny jeans and an oversized sweater for weekend errands. I love that it’s a two-for-one: true workout shoes in a color that works for the street. My other favorite sneakers: THESE. I get compliments on them every. single. time. I wear them.
Also just had to throw this out there so you guys can learn from my mistake… Note to self: Do NOT make out with your husband when he is sick. Doesn’t matter how cute he is! You will end up with a head cold and want to die.
PS: Obviously I picked a bad day to shoot this look with all that snow on the ground. I have begun to wonder if it will ever stop snowing in South Bend. We get “lake effect snow” so even when Chicago gets nothing, we will get 7 inches! Pretty sure it has snowed every single day for the past week, and I am not even trying to be dramatic.
