White on white is not a novel concept, fashion mavens have been rocking the “trend” for quite some time and I’ve even featured it here on GHL multiple times (see here, here and here for just a few). It can seem intimidating at first but you want to know the trick? Mixing different shades of white and/or various textures! When I laid eyes on this floral peplum blouse at Banana Republic, I immediately grabbed it and ran for the dressing room. While it took two tries to get my size right (it runs really large, be sure to size down), once I got that all figured out it was looooove. The peplum is relaxed so it lays well under cardigans and jackets, the structure is really slimming, and the floral eyelet fabric is so season-appropriate.
Another great way to wear white on white is to mix it with other neutrals. In this case I used the camel color to bookend the all-white look by balancing these flats with this lightweight faux suede jacket (that rings in under $30!) The jacket is another item you’ll want to size down in. This is actually the second one I ordered because it is so inexpensive that it wasn’t worth it to to me to go to the post office and ship it back so I sold the other one on my Shop My Closet page and just ordered another one, this time going a size down. What I like about using tan as your offset color is that it is another neutral. This keeps your all-white look from becoming “white on white with a pop of color” because I wouldn’t really classify tan as a “color”, per se. This jacket is a perfect weight for right now – it’s actually pretty thin but in the most perfect way. I can already tell I am going to be wearing it over dresses and with cutoffs all Spring and Summer!
What do you think, do you prefer to rock true white on white, or do you like adding in another neutral color?
