*Please excuse the new mattress topper that is currently airing out in our living room that I’m casually standing on – ha!*
Since I was able to shop Early Access for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, some of my purchases have started to arrive and I’ve had a chance to determine if I’m keeping them or returning.
It’s easy to get a little click happy during the sale but I always fall back on Nordstrom’s easy return policy and the fact that it’s free shipping and free returns. I over-order knowing that I will return some stuff. I just hate going in store and would much prefer to try on in the comfort of my own home where I can try items with other things in my closet and see what I really need and will wear most.
For those of you shopping today as it goes public, here are my honest thoughts on what I purchased. Hope it can be helpful to you as you make your selects!
If you haven’t checked out my top picks from all categories across the sale (beyond just what I bought), you can see those here!
Sweaters and Tops
Halogen Ribbed Sweater – LOVE! Feels super high quality, I would never guess it to be so inexpensive! It fits true to size, but I may order down one size because I was envisioning it being tight to my body (just personal preference!) This is the sweater I am wearing in the photo at the beginning of this post.
Topshop Split Neck Ribbed Sweater – Very cute, but not the best quality. There’s something going on with the elastic at the very bottom that makes it feel like it’s pulling. Probably going to return even though I really like the look of the split neck.
Something Navy Flecked Crewneck Sweater – I’ve ordered a few items from the Something Navy collection before and been burned every time; the quality just isn’t there. But I decided to give it another chance for this sweater… and it’s getting returned. I am sad because the fit of the sweater is actually really great and it’s quite cute, but it is a little itchy and I just can’t do that. If you are someone that wears a long sleeve shirt under your sweaters then it’s fine, but that sure ain’t happening down here in Texas.
Alo Cover Tank – This one got cancelled as they ran out of stock! It was out of my comfort zone which is why I was excited to snag it on sale; I was excited to see if I liked it with my high waisted leggings for spin class. I can definitely live without it but I am going to see if they restock because Alo tops are SO SOFT.
Jackets and Cardigans
Barbour Spring Annandale Quilted Jacket – Still can’t believe I was able to snag Barbour for 50% off! Unfortunately the color online looked more off-white and this is actually a true beige in person. Still very pretty but not a flattering shade on me so I’m going to be returning. There are a few great Barbour jackets included in the sale this year, so I might check out the others.
Topshop Double Breasted Plaid Blazer – Very cute, great quality, but does run a bit bigger than I anticipated. Typically I size up to a 6 in Topshop, but this one actually runs true to size and I should have gotten my normal 4 which is now unfortunately sold out. I’m going to keep an eye out to see if they restock.
Topshop Long Cardigan – Very Free People-esque which you know I love. The more oversized and unflattering the better! This cardigan is super cozy and even though it is very oversized, it still looks really nice on. I ordered it in two colors, one in my normal Small and one in an XS to compare. I like both for different reasons, so it just depends on what you prefer; the XS fits more like a Small (so if you want it to fit like a normal cardigan, order one size down), while the Small is very oversized.
Bottoms
Hudson Jeans High Waist Camo Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans – These were a wild card that I threw in on a whim. I always love camo so figured they were worth a shot and would make outfits a little more fun in the fall when all I wear is the basic “jeans and a sweater” combo. Gotta spice it up somehow! These fit TTS but if you are between sizes, I would go down. I am wearing these in the photo at the top of this post.
Champion Embroidered Script Logo Athletic Shorts – I ended up returning these. I prefer to workout in my Lululemon shorts so these would have been moreso for wearing around the house and ultimately I decided I just didn’t need them.
Alo Airbrush High Waist Leggings – These got cancelled as they ran out of stock and I’m so sad! I was really pumped to try these in the Fall with oversized sweaters and OTK boots (again, call me basic) so I will keep an eye out to see if they restock.
Bras and Pajamas
Natori Bliss Perfection Underwire Contour Bra – My new favorite bra! I very well might order this in another color because it is so comfortable. When I was in store recently the sales associate told me that this is their current best seller and I can see why! I generally hate bras but this one is so soft and so comfy that I can barely feel it on. While I love the Feathers bra, this one is great under t-shirts since the lace from the Feathers bra does show through smooth fabrics a bit.
Natori Feathers Underwire Contour Bra – I first bought this bra when we moved to Texas and it was so hot that my Victoria’s Secret one felt like I was suffocating it was so bulky! Since then, I’ve turned so many people on to this bra – it’s the best! It is super lightweight and doesn’t add bulk but still manages to support you. I also appreciate the pretty lace edging so that if your bra ends up peeking out it actually kinda looks cute. Be sure to size up one in the band as the lace fits tight.
Halogen Seamless Contour Bralette – So comfortable! And surprisingly, even though the lining is pretty minimal, it offers great shape. The fit seems a little strange at first because the sides cut in really far, but it’s so that the bra doesn’t peek out of the sides of tanks or tops that have larger/lower arm holes. I actually appreciate that about the design!
Nordstrom Lingerie Moonlight Pajamas – So sad that these got cancelled! I added these to my cart after Rachel Parcell posted them to her Insta-story and I’m pretty sure she sold them out faster than the site could keep up. (They still have other colors available, but I wanted the grey striped pair). I own the shorts version of these PJs and can attest that they are very similar to the Eberjey ones (I’ve owned both) so I was excited to get the long pair. I will keep an eye out to see if they restock.
Shoes, Accessories, and Beauty
Steve Madden Jillian Booties – These are beautiful! I highly recommend if you’re looking for booties with some heel height that are still very comfortable; these look expensive and the slightly pointed toe is very flattering. All that said, I am going to be returning because I am on the search for my “perfect black bootie” and am being *extremely* picky (slash I have a very specific image in my mind of a pair I saw a girl in Paris wearing last December haha!)
Brixton Joanna III Wool Felt Hat – I had originally wanted the nude/pink colorway but it was already sold out Day One. I bought the black instead because I love my Joanna straw hats so much. I have a tiny head so appreciate that Brixton offers various sizes, however sadly even the XS was a bit too big in this one. Must be the fabric because that’s the size I wear in my straw ones. You may consider sizing down or ordering two sizes. If you own the straw hats, I would consider going down one size.
St. Tropez Jumbo Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse – My favorite mousse self-tanner because it only needs to be left on for a few hours before rinsing off so I can apply it when I get home from work and rinse off before bed. Other mousses take so long that they require sleeping in them (if you’ve ever done that you know how uncomfortable it is) and I never have a full day that I’m home and can apply. This one is efficient.
Diptyque Set of 5 Travel Size Candles – DO NOT BUY! Guys, these are freaking votive candles. They are TINY! I am so disappointed because I had wanted to use these for gifts but they are so puny it’s embarrassing.
What Matt Bought
Vineyard Vines Tucker Plaid Performance Sport Shirt – This is a new performance fabric, similar to Mizzen + Main but on sale for a lower price point so he wanted to try it. I think this will be particularly great for people who need to wear long sleeves to work but live in very warm climates (aka Texas).
Champion Vintage Flock Print Logo T-Shirt – So cool! Matt would like it known that he has been wearing Champion for years and is annoyed that it’s become cool and now everyone is wearing it – ha!
Champion Chenille Logo Reverse Weave Sweatshirt – Another sick Champion find. Fits a little big, but Matt didn’t want to go down a size because he thinks it will shrink a bit in the wash.
Good Man Brand Edge Sneaker – Your man NEEDS these! They are an investment, but honestly the price is not too bad and very fair. It is actually quite difficult to find simple white leather sneakers with no bells or whistles or logos and these fit the bill. Matt said they are very comfortable and I say they look extremely handsome on.
What I Bought for Joe
Adidas Originals Trefoil T-Shirt – I bought him this last year during the NSale and it was my favorite thing to put him in because Matt and I both have this top too! I was pumped to see it included again so I could grab it in a larger size. Matching family photo coming soon.
Nuna RAVA™ Flame Retardant Free Convertible Car Seat – We haven’t used this yet – in fact it’s still in the box – so I can’t speak to it at this time. However, we had recently begun looking into convertible car seats for Joe since he will phase out of his infant car seat soon, and this one came highly recommended so I wanted to snag it while it was on sale!
Converse Chuck Taylor® All Star® 2V Leather Sneaker – I bought these in a size up so he can grow into them since a) he isn’t walking yet and b) the leather makes them read as more of a Fall shoe. It seems like he will definitely be walking within a few months so fingers crossed I sized correctly; I think these will be so cute with some chinos and a henley!
