Clean Beauty Reviews, vol II.

Back with another round of clean beauty reviews, including my favorite non-toxic deodorant, some hits, and a miss.

Primally Pure Deodorant

The very first “clean” switch I made.

I tried a few other brands first and let’s just say they made me question the switch (think stinky, slimy, all around nasty). However, this one converted me. With a texture similar to traditional antiperspirant and lovely, light scents, I have recommended this to countless people!

At this point I’ve tried most of the scents (Geranium, Lemongrass, Lavender, Charcoal and Blue Tansy) and my favorites are definitely lavender and blue tansy.

A tip for transitioning… It may sound crazy to put a face mask on your armpits but that’s exactly what you should do. Clay and charcoal masks are known for their abilities to draw out toxins and impurities, perfect for speeding up the transition process. I used this inexpensive one but any one you have on hand works.

Beautycounter Lip Sheer in Rose

I had high hopes for this product but it fell short. The color is very pretty – your-lips-but-better plus a little shimmer. However, the formulation is very sheer, requiring re-application after every mere conversation. Not worth the effort.

BeautyCounter Volume & Shape Shampoo

Real talk, shampoo was the clean beauty swap I was most afraid of. Since sulfates are the ingredient responsible for the “suds” in shampoo and the two main ones, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), are toxic, I expected the search to take forever and include many greasy hair days.

However, I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered the BeautyCounter Volume & Shape Shampoo on a whim. Not only did it lather beautifully just like other shampoos, but it left my hair feeling clean and luscious!

The price seems fair considering it doesn’t include any toxic ingredients and it doesn’t take a ton of product to get the job done. I’ve suspect I’ll only have to buy it a couple times a year.

Supergoop! Lip Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 30

This was a gift from a friend and quickly became by go-to. It feels very similar to my favorite luxury lip balm but at a much more palatable price point. I keep the mint one on my nightstand and the acai one in my handbag (it tastes like a vacation!)
