Would you believe me if I said that my favorite lipstick is GREEN?

A few years ago (back in the early days of this blog), I discovered this green lipstick that supposedly adjusted to the pH of your body to turn the perfect pink.  I was intruiged.

….And now I wear it like chapstick.

Needless to say, that was the beginning of a love affair with color-changing lipsticks.  I have repurchased that green one (cleverly named Frog Prince) more times than I can count and I’ve given it as gifts just as many times – because it’s foolproof since it reacts with each individual’s body!

I’ve also ventured into some of the other color offerings and below I’m sharing a review of each along with unedited photos of them on. It’s awkward posting selfies, let alone with zero filter, but I really want you to be able to see the true colors so you can decide if you want to give them a try!

Now for reviews and swatches, in the order pictured above…

Frog Prince

The one that started it all, Frog Prince is green in the tube and turns a pretty pink when applied.

Highway 66

Cactus green in the tube, Highway 66 turns a bright pink when applied. **It is advertised as turning a “bright tangerine” but was definitely more pink for me, as you can see below.

Mornin’ Sunshine

Yellow in the tube, Mornin’ Sunshine turns a peachy coral hue when applied. My current favorite, this is the one I’ve worn all Summer, almost exclusively!

Hello Sailor

Navy blue in the tube, Hello Sailor turns a berry shade when applied. My least favorite of all the shades I’ve tried, but that’s personal preference as I tend to gravitate towards corals and pinks moreso than berry hues.

Old Flame

Neon orange in the tube, Old Flame turns a bright peach when applied. More vibrant and pigmented than any of the other options, this is a new favorite. A great statement lip color.

Ice Queen

Ice Queen isn’t a true “shade-shifter” but this white lipstick can be worn on it’s own or over another color to add an opalescent sheen that is so pretty! While not technically color changing, it does have a transformational effect and it’s such a fun one I had to include it!

In the photo below, it is applied over this lip stain in the color “Pink Power”. This picture is from when I was pregnant. Can you tell?! #swollenmuch

Lipstick Queen's Ice Queen shade may look scary - it's a bright white! - but it adds the most beautiful opalescent sheen over any color! Read on for reviews of more of Lipstick Queen's infamous color-changing lipsticks!

A few reasons I keep coming back to these lipsticks:

They are nourishing. Not drying at all like some lipsticks!

The color looks incredibly natural, very much “your lips but better”. Since they react with your pH levels, they do not have a traditional matte or satin finish; they look more like a very light lip balm when applied.

It’s hilarious watching people’s faces in horror when you whip out a green lipstick and start slathering it on. I get such a kick out of it!

The formulations are clean and natural. I presume the fact that the founder is from Australia (where standards are higher than in the US) plays a part in this. Either way I’m grateful I don’t have to worry about hidden toxic chemicals.

Where to Start?

If you’re just dipping your toes into the color-changing lipstick trend, start with Frog Prince. It is the original for good reason – it is a super wearable shade that looks good year round and flatters everyone.

That said, right now my personal favorite is Mornin’ Sunshine. The subtle coral shade is absolutely perfect for Summer. It really brightens up the face!
